Essential Factors Affecting AP EAMCET Ranks
Understanding how ranks are generated from marks is crucial to plan your counselling strategy. Here are the core factors governing the allotment of AP EAPCET / EAMCET ranks:
1. Removal of 25% IPE Weightage
Traditionally, the state government considered 25% weightage of Intermediate (12th Board) science marks alongside 75% entrance score weightage. Currently, the board has removed IPE weightage entirely. Your rank is generated purely out of the 160 marks scored in the entrance examination, ensuring a level playing field for students from different boards (CBSE, ICSE, Board of Intermediate).
2. Session Normalization Formula
The AP EAPCET exam is conducted in multiple sessions over 4-5 days. Because question paper difficulty can vary from session to session, a normalization process is applied. The formula adjusts raw scores relative to the average scores of top candidates in each session, ensuring that students writing relatively difficult papers are not disadvantaged.
3. General and OBC Qualifying Thresholds
General Category (OC), OBC (BC-A/B/C/D/E), and OC-EWS candidates must score a minimum of 40 marks out of 160 (25%)to receive a rank. Candidates who score below 40 in these categories do not qualify for official ranks or standard web-options entry. There are no minimum qualifying marks for SC and ST candidates.
4. Local vs Non-Local Categories Quota
Andhra Pradesh allocates 85% of seats inside local university zones for regional students. The three main regions are:
- Andhra University (AU): Coastal districts (Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East/West Godavari, Krishna).
- Sri Venkateswara University (SVU): Rayalaseema districts (Chittoor, Kadapa, Anantapur, Kurnool, Nellore, Prakasam).
- Osmania University (OU): Telangana regions and statewide open pools.
